Health services

We work closely with the following mainstream health staff to provide a wide range of services. Services are provided in the home, at St James Street Health Centre, other local GP surgeries and the Children’s Centre in Queens Road.

The Health Visitor and Community Nursery Nurse give information and advice on: diet and feeding, child development and behaviour, sleep, minor illnesses, accident prevention and play/learning activities. They do the one and two year child development checks at the Centre. They can also give advice and support about your own health and wellbeing.

The Midwifery Team offer information and support to women and their partners when planning a pregnancy, during pregnancy and for six weeks after the baby is born. They run antenatal classes and an ante and postnatal clinic at the Centre.

The Speech and Language Therapist gives information and advice on your child’s talking and language development. If your child has difficulty talking she can provide advice, therapy at home or referral to specialist services. She also runs a Signs and Rhymes group, a Talking Toddlers group and ‘Drop in’ sessions during Stay and Play where parents can discuss any concerns.

The Dietitian can offer advice about your child’s diet and also your own diet. She runs a ‘Drop in’ session at the Children’s Centre. She also runs sessions on weaning, feeding fussy eating and basic cookery.
